Enter a company name or ticker symbol in the Search bar to get the results.

Choose the default (AAOIFI) or Custom option from the box on the right.

Default Option: AAOIFI Standard (Market Practice)

In the AAOIFI Option, a stock is judged to be conditionally permissible to buy and own if it meets the AAOIFI Standards as practiced in the market. These are that (1) the core business is permissible, and (2) it indulges in only a small amount of riba (interest), and the interest that the investor earns as income is given away (purification).

Sharialytics screens out all companies whose core business is not permissible, and reports the three financial ratios specified by AAOIFI:

  1. Interest-bearing debt as a ratio of market capitalization (must be less than or equal to 30%).

  2. Interest-earning deposits as a ratio of market capitalization (must be less than or equal to 30%).

  3. Interest income as a ratio of total revenue (must be less than or equal to 5%).

You can see the actual values of these ratios just below the search screen and form your own judgments on how close you wish to get to the boundaries of conditional permissibility.

Custom Option: AAOIFI Standard (Extended)

Under the Custom Option, for more sophisticated investors who feel that interest-bearing debt should be small not in relation to market capitalization, but in relation to equity or total liabilities, and deposits to total assets, we provide those ratios as well.

Under this option, we also provide some additional financial ratios: some that occur in the AAOIFI Standard but have been ignored by market practitioners and some that follow from AAOIFI reasoning but do not occur in the Standards.
